CTICC LAUNCHES NEW SUSTAINABLE COFFEESHOP MENU

The Cape Town International Convention Centre (CTICC) today launched its new sustainable menu at its on - site coffee shop, Coffee on the Square. According to General Manager for Operations, Aage Hansen, the new menu, which has been designed according to international cuisine standards, encompasses a fully sustainable food offering.

“Every item on the menu has been exclusively crafted by our Executive Chef, Warwick Thomas to reduce the centre's food footprint in order to contribute to a sustainable industry. All ingredients are therefore sourced within a 40 km radius”, says Hansen. “A special focus on our menu is the Harvest of Hope salad, which is a delicious combination of the freshest ingredients sourced from one of our community partners, Abalimi Bezekhaya - Harvest of Hope. Being able to support these micro-farmers on the Cape Flats by sourcing the produce for this salad reinforces our commitment to uplifting and empowering the communities in which the CTICC operates”, he adds.

“In line with the latest international cuisine trends the new menu offers a wide selection of innovative healthy cuisine options such as unique herbal teas and health laden smoothies with soy options, such as the Exotic Smoothie, which is comprised of pawpaw, granadilla, dragon fruit and Asian pears”, says Hansen.

The menu contains an array of innovative and unusual breakfast and lunch options such as Deli Style Lunches, which debuts dishes such as marinated artichokes on a bed of hummus with crushed butter beans, smoked paprika, parsley, garlic and roasted tomatoes drizzled with olive oil and pesto on toasted ciabatta. Other signature dishes include the black pepper beef, extra strong cheddar and chutney on cranberry, pecan nut and raisin artisan bread and the Toasties on Farmhouse Bread, which boasts fillings such as hickory turkey, mozzarella and basil. Gourmet burgers on offer include sticky chicken basted in hickory smoked BBQ sauce with cheddar and grilled corn, topped with crème fraiche and fresh coriander. The Mexican beef (200 g) or chicken burger also comes with guacamole, crème fraiche, cheddar cheese, chilli and fresh coriander. In addition all dishes have a healthy vegetable crisp option instead of chips. An exclusive kiddies menu is also available, which includes dishes such as baby hake with sautéed potatoes and mayonnaise and sticky lamb ribs.

“The new menu is geared at providing patrons with a healthy “on the go” nutritious meal option. We are confident that the food offerings will provide our patrons with an extraordinary culinary experience”, concludes Hansen.
