Culinary firsts for food and hospitality industry in Africa

The CTICC recently played host to the international business to business food and hospitality exhibition, Food Hospitality World Africa. According to Louise Cashmore, from Fiera Milano Exhibitions Africa, the organisers of both Food Hospitality World Africa and the Good Food and Wine Show, the exhibition provided an unprecedented platform for exhibitors, buyers and visitors to connect and open new business channels in the pan-African food and hospitality industry.

 

With over 40 international buyers and pre-fixed buyer meetings, Food Hospitality World Africa is the first truly global food and hospitality trade show. One of the distinguishing features of this international event was the Lion’s Den, where budding innovators pitched their products and ideas to a panel of food and hospitality industry entrepreneurs and stood to win a business starter pack worth over R500 000.

 

Food Hospitality World Africa ran concurrently with the Good Food and Wine Show, which once again pushed the boundaries of culinary innovation when it debuted its Pestaurant. The Pestuarant, a restaurant, which served insects, was another first for Africa and provided a unique dining experience. An array of exotic cuisine, including a range of edible insects such as meal worms, locusts and crickets and for the sweeter tooth, chocolate dipped crickets and scorpion lollies were on offer for adventurous foodies.

 

This year’s Good Food & Wine Show focused on food, wine & design culminating in the ultimate foodie experience. New features which were introduced to the show included the Regional Wine Tour, which allowed attendees to experience a taste tour, the Seductive Nutrition pavilion which focused on raw organic healthy living and the Mobile Food Truck pavilion which showcased the latest international food trends.
