Cape Town’s Table Mountain is iconic.
In a global context, it is one of the New 7 Wonders of Nature, alongside natural wonders such as the Amazon River and Iguazu Falls. Its indigenous Khoisan name is Hoerikwaggo, meaning “mountain in the sea”. Its unique flora and fauna mark it out as a focus of the unique Cape Floral Kingdom. Views of it range from Robben Island, down the peninsula to Cape Point, up the West Coast and beyond.
We position the mountain front and centre of this year’s CTICC integrated annual report, not just as a visual cue or a well-loved geographic symbol. It represents, here, for us, what the CTICC has become – an organisation and a space that is strong, resilient and, despite strong economic headwinds, here to stay.
Now, 22 years into its existence, it has come of age as a future-fit centre for innovation, built from a distinguished and distinctive history. The building’s rooflines and glazing reflect the silhouette of Table Mountain and Cape Town’s ever-changing weather and sky. This anchors the venue as part of the landscape, not separate from it. This further echoes its contribution to the City of Cape Town, its economy and its communities, which continues to grow.
The mountains are not merely a motif. They signal and echo the fact that the CTICC, as a business, continues to be strong, vibrant, innovative and unrivalled.
VIBRANT
… speaks to a living calendar of events that channel energy into the visitor economy of the city, the province and the country – as this year’s Events and Economic Contribution chapters will testify. It also frames the people-first ethos of the CTICC – whose consistently excellent service turns events into memorable experiences and organisers into avid advocates. The dedication of our people to the success of our clients’ ideas and events is critical, in turn, to the performance and growth of our business. You will see this in Our Vibrant People chapter.
INNOVATIVE
… speaks to both form and function, to both the space itself and the ideas it generates. The knowledge economy has always found a home at the CTICC, and this year has been no exception, as the Events chapter will illustrate. Its complex was designed to flex with organisers’ ambitions and it has always operated under internationally recognised protocols that drive the highest standards in quality, safety, food integrity and environmental management. These certifications form the backbone of the operational disciplines that reinforce every event, while at the same time drive innovation through a forward-looking leadership.
UNRIVALLED
… sets the CTICC in the context of convention centres on the African continent, strengthened by its links to Cape Town’s established reputation as an events destination, supported by the awards it consistently wins. It speaks to a performance mindset anchored in rigorous stewardship. The CTICC’s sustainability programme spans from careful water use, energy optimisation and waste minimisation – all of which are underpinned by ISO 14001 and a public commitment to the Net Zero Carbon Events initiative. Our social contribution – valued at over R2 million this year – also pivots around two key initiatives: the increasingly influential annual Youth in Action Expo and the year-round CTICC Cares Drive.
So, although the contours and natural beauty of the mountains frame our theme this year, they signal much more than the granite, sandstone and mudstone they are primarily composed of. They are a declaration of the CTICC’s clarity of vision and continuity of care – founded on the VIBRANT spirit of its people and offering; the INNOVATIVE heart that drives its service delivery; and its UNRIVALLED contribution to our regional economy, our local communities, our national future and, indeed, the global conferencing landscape.
