The Art Of Resilience

The last two years have been difficult for all but the one thing that Covid-19 has taught us is that the best way to respond to challenges is to grow our resilience to it.

Resilience comes from the Latin word “resilire”, meaning to “jump back”. Its definition describes a material’s ability to return to its original shape after bending, stretching or compression, as well as a person’s ability to bounce back from a shock.

One of the most iconic examples of fynbos is the protea. Sometimes known as the “phoenix flower”, proteas literally rise from the ashes. Their name, from Proteus, the Greek god who could change his form at will, further enhances the concept and perfectly describes the CTICC’s ability to adapt.

It is inspiring that beauty, colour and life can re-emerge from destruction. To come out of the fire, changed and renewed, is the inspiration for our 2021/22 Integrated Annual Report – “The art of resilience”.

This concept has been paired with watercolour design elements that run throughout the report and this website. Watercolour is about immediacy, energy and boldness and to create a masterpiece, the artist must act quickly and cleverly.

In that context, the 2021/22 Integrated Annual Report expresses our ability to embrace flexibility, respond to changing situations fearlessly and seize growth opportunities wherever we can for a better tomorrow.
